Corn cobs have potential as livestock feed, but their high crude fiber and lignocellulose content results in low palatability and digestibility. Processing corn cobs into livestock feed is necessary to improve their quality. One processing method that combines chemical and biological techniques, such as amofer (ammoniation-fermentation), can be used to optimize the quality of corn cobs. M21 Decomposer (M21D) is a fermentation starter that can be used, but its application in feed processing—particularly in the amofer process—is still rarely practiced. Based on the above description, further research is needed on the optimal levels of M21D and urea addition in the production of corn cob amofer. The objective of this study was to determine the optimal levels of M21D and urea addition in terms of crude fiber (CF) and nitrogen-free extract (NFE) content in corn cob amofer. The method used was an experimental design with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), consisting of 5 treatments and 5 replicates. The treatments in this study were R0 (corn cobs without amofer), R1 (corn cobs with the addition of 0.04% M21D and 3% urea), R2 (corn cobs with the addition of 0.06% M21D and 3% urea), R3 (corn cob amofer with the addition of M21D 0.04% and urea 5%), and R4 (corn cob amofer with the addition of M21D 0.06% and urea 5%). The results of the study indicate that the treatments applied had a significant effect (P < 0.01) on the CF and NFE content. Treatment R4 resulted in the lowest CF content of 28.97% and the highest NFE content of 58.21%. The conclusion of the study is that treatment R4 is the best treatment because it reduced the CF content by 1.98% and increased the NFE content by 2.45% compared to corn cobs without Amofer.
